Project Manager

Juba South Sudan

FYI is recruiting a Project Manager to lead the implementation. The Project Manager position requires an energetic South Sudanese individual with extensive experience managing programs in South Sudan. Previous experience in the media sector and experience in delivering humanitarian or development projects is an advantage. The Project Manager will be expected to oversee the roll-out and implementation of the project and work with development partners to ensure the effective delivery of project activities. He/She must have strong communication and time management skills, as well as the ability to work independently and with limited supervision. Qualified women are encouraged to apply for this position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with the development partner to implement the activities.
  • Manages the implementation of all aspects of the project, including coordinating the delivery of activities and program reports.
  • Monitors project progress, identifies and addresses any potential issues that may arise during the project implementation.
  • Develops and maintains a close relationship with media and other stakeholders to further project goals.
  • Documents project successes and learning to contribute to the organizational knowledge base.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years project management experience
  • University degree in social sciences and relevant fields
  • Management and team building skills and experience
  • Understanding of gender issues
  • Good understanding of the media environment in South Sudan
  • Good English writing/reporting and speaking skills
  • Fluency in Arabic or Intermediate speaking level of Arabic
  • Experience managing remote teams will be an advantage
  • Computer literacy, internet, and social media literacy

Media and Communications Officer

Juba- South Sudan

FYI is seeking for Media and Communications Officer. The Communications Officer works closely with all project departments, coordinating both internal and external communications for the project. This position will create communications strategies and deliver tools and materials to maximize the external outreach for the project. The ideal candidate will have experience with multimedia reporting, an excellent experience and track record in public relations, as well as an appreciation for Foundation for Youth Initiative’s cardinal mission and vision. The work produced will be suitable for a range of stakeholders including external audiences.

Duties and Responsibilities:

External Communications:

The Communications Officer will work with the the project staff and Partner Staff in; highlighting the work of Foundation for Youth Initiative in South Sudan and advocating around specific issues and focus areas; external communications efforts will target specific groups both within South Sudan and around the globe. Activities in this category will be broad ranging, but may include:

  • Maintains responsibility for Foundation for Youth Initiative in South Sudan’s online presence, including creation and management of a simple website.
  • Creates social media content for Twitter, Facebook, etc. and ensure presence of Foundation South Sudan project across all relevant social media platforms.
  • Producing and effectively disseminate regular multimedia content relating to the Foundation’s project in South Sudan, including but by no means limited to adapting donor oriented ‘success stories’ to a broader public audience.
  • Manages content and communications assets, including photo archives, multimedia material, reports and project documentation.
  • Manages short-term communications projects or initiatives – such as overseeing video production or accompanying visiting journalists – as they may arise.
  • Being responsible for drafting timely accurate press releases for key events, publications and advocacy issues as they arise.
  • Authors and edits project related success stories that demonstrate impact and potential for scaling up best practices.
  • Creates and manages contacts and media database, (including entering and maintaining data and running reports, etc.).
  • Creates and maintains a listserve of those interested in Foundation for Youth Initiative including partners, supporters and media, and ensure consistent and quality information is shared out.
  • Coordinates the logistical planning and execution of public events such as panel discussions and forums. Work with project teams to coordinate publicity of event, manage registration, coordinate event follow-up, and other tasks related to event management.
  • Designs and produces regular newsletters for programs and/or projects.
  • Provides Short ‘Weekly Updates’ giving highlights and a country overview.
  • Provides Monthly Detailed Reports for the duration of the project
  • Provides regular ‘Success Stories’ highlighting project activities and achievements.
  • Other updates or reporting as required.
  • Production of a bi-monthly staff newsletter to keep FYI in South Sudan staff informed of organizational activities and updates.

Job Qualifications:

  • Relevant university degree or diploma in media, communication, international development, or humanitarian sector.
  • A solid background in journalism, media and/or communication for development.
  • Experience in leading projects, including budget management, reporting and M&E.
  • Experience in leading and coordinating teams and staff.
  • Experience working with diverse partners and subgrantees.
  • Strong communication and diplomatic skills.
  • Proven ability to develop and monitor work plans and training plans.
  • Practical experience in establishing and operating training programs.
  • Experience living and working in Africa and/or conflict/post-conflict environments.
  • Ability to adjust to shifting political circumstances and create programming accordingly.
  • Sensitivity to cross-cultural dynamics in the work place and experience supervising staff.
  • Must be self-reliant, resourceful, good problem-solver, good humored, and flexible.
  • Ability to travel within and spend extended time in the field, with limited facilities, often under harsh conditions.
  • Fluency in English.

Monitoring and Evaluation Officer

Juba- South Sudan

FYI is seeking a Monitoring and Evaluation Officer. The M&E Officer will be responsible for maintaining accurate records on data gathered during all stages of project implementation in line with data quality standards and will support in tracking, synthesizing, and organizing data into reports. The project M&E Officer will be conducting M&E for the 500 Text messages/Interactive hub-using ‘Engage Spark’ Platform and conducting M&E for the 2,000+ individual farmers and SME’s on Social Media. This position reports to the Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement all aspects of the performance and impact measurement for the project, including collection and monitoring of all data, processing and verification.
  • Design, implement and contribute to evaluation methodologies and measurement approaches, above and beyond required indicators.
  • Implement and track the project’s approved Performance, Monitoring and Evaluation Plan (PMEP), including all required submissions of quarterly data, annual PIRs and other requests.
  • Conduct/manage the collections of qualitative and quantitative data per the approved work plan.
  • Responsible for keeping meticulous records, archives, and databases for all activities and ensuring they are updated regularly.
  • Train project staff in effective and appropriate data collection, methodology, and tools.
  • Work closely with other implementing partners to ensure coordination of M&E methodology and data, as well as capacity building for beneficiaries on M&E systems and data collection.
  • Draft regular donor narrative reports for project etc. at the following intervals: weekly, quarterly, annual, and final reports, as well as any other reports of the project as needed for internal and external use.
  • Ensure two-way communication and feedback between all stakeholders, staff and audiences to ensure reports are utilized and practical.
  • Develop new and keep up-to-date communications products to articulate the full scope and impact of the project on a regular basis to external and internal stakeholders including a two-pager informational brochure, community radio stations map, and staff newsletter.
  • Work with program staff to write human-interest success stories about project impact representing a wide range of locations and topics for sharing with general audiences as well as donors.

Job Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in social science, development, or related field or equivalent standard of education.
  • Exceptional and inspired English writing skills, to a publishable standard. Writing samples and portfolio required.
  • Experience in the field of performance measurement for social development activities and/or media.
  • Familiarity with both qualitative and quantitative data collection and M&E database systems and familiarity with multiple M&E collection platforms such as ‘Engage Spark’
  • Experience with all relevant software, such as Excel, SPSS, In-Design, Photoshop etc.
  • Sensitivity to cross-cultural dynamics in the work place and experience supervising staff.
  • Must be self-reliant, resourceful, good problem-solver, good humored, and flexible.
  • Ability to travel within South Sudan. Willingness to spend extended time in the field, with limited facilities, often under harsh conditions.
  • Ability to work independently, efficiently and reliably, to a high standard and to deadline.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse staff.
  • Fluency in English, knowledge of Arabic a plus.
